Visit report - EY Cezanne Exhibition at the Tate Modern on Wednesday 1ST March 2023 

   

  

31 members took the train down to Blackfriars on 1st March to see the Cezanne Exhibition at the Tate Modern. This was the first exhibition focused on the iconic artist in many years and the clear displays and informative explanations complemented the pictures perfectly. The real treat of the day was a talk beforehand from Frank Woodgate, who is a great favourite with members. This set the scene for us and helped us to understand the context of the turbulent period when Cezanne was working in Paris and Provence. The exhibition showed the many facets of his life and work, not just as a still life and landscape painter, but an influential innovator and an active commentator on the political turmoil of his day.
