Visit to Ascott House and gardens
Tuesday 18 June

 

Ascott House is a National Trust property near Leighton Buzzard   Our schedule:
·     Meet the coach mid-morning in Harpenden
·     Arrive at Ascott House at 11.30 and explore the gardens
·     Lunch at 1.00 consisting of quiche, salad, cake, tea or coffee
·     2.30 tour of the house
·     4.30 ish return to Harpenden  


Price: National Trust members £30, non-National Trust members £48.00 (these prices are provisional depending on the number of people who sign up)  

Ascott House is the historic rural retreat of the de Rothschild family.  Ascott houses an excellent assortment of artworks, fine furnishings and oriental porcelain. The 30-acre gardens have dramatic landscaping and sweeping lawns. The gardens are a blend of the formal and characteristic with specimen trees, bushes and herbaceous borders.

3 nights at Livermead Cliff Hotel. £549 per person sharing plus a supplement of £30 for single. Travel, dinner, bed and breakfast and all entry fees included.

Outline itinerary:
Sun 22 ;  depart, break journey  at Wells.

Mon23 :  am   Powderham Castle  , Lunch  Torquay harbour, pm  Torre Abbey  (other possibilities:   Buckfast Abbey, Kents Cavern,   Paignton Model Village, house of Marbles)  

Tues 24:  “Round Robin”  Tour  consisting of boat trip at 10.30 from Totnes to Dartmouth (2 hrs), then Ferry to Kingswear , and 14.45 Steam train back to Paignton.  

Wed 25:  return to Harpenden, visiting possibly  Malmesbury (Abbey) or Tewkesbury
