As a charity we contribute to our local community in the form of grants for art related projects.   

 We plan to broaden the scope of our giving to encourage the participation and enjoyment of art in its widest sense, including music and drama.   If anyone has a cause they would like to nominate please contact the committee.

Here are three examples of recent community grants: 

TASHE successfully applied for a Community Grant of £250 from The Arts Society in April 2024. The funds were used to purchase art and craft materials to entertain the children who attend the Harpenden Child Contact Centre. This organisation provides a safe and welcoming space where children can meet family members with whom they don’t live, often as a result of divorce or family separation. The Chair of the HCCC expressed her gratitude at their AGM and at our AGM in July 2024.

For the previous 2 years the Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam Band have provided the entertainment for our Christmas Dinner. This jazz band is made up of parents and pupils of 3 St Albans secondary schools.  These events have show-cased the talents of the younger musicians and given them an opportunity to try out their improvisation skills under the tutelage of more experienced players. TASHE have given donations to the community band to support the musical development of young people in the area and thank them for their musical contribution to the success of these dinners.

The Arts Society awarded TASHE a community grant which we have given to the adult residents of Stairways at their house, run by MENCAP, in Harpenden. They want to purchase paints and equipment to produce a mural on a wall at another of their houses which will be created by the residents themselves.  The carers plan to work with the Art Department at St George's School, Harpenden to run a summer term mural design competition once the exam season has finished. Pupils will submit their designs and the winning one will be chosen by adults with learning disabilities who live at Pine Court. This will then be painted by them in the car park area at Pine Court later in the year.   We will be able to watch the progress and view the finished mural.
