Althorp House has been the home of the Spencer family for 500 years and was also the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales. This is an opportunity for a self guided tour of the House, with well informed staff in each room to give us more details. In the magnificent House, we can discover its beautiful interiors and one of Europe's finest private collections of furniture, paintings, and ceramics. In the Stables block, built by Roger Morris in 1733 in the Anglo-Palladian style, we will enjoy refreshments in the Stables Café and a walk through the grounds at Althorp, where the natural beauty is truly captivating. Diana was laid to rest on an island in the middle of a lake in the grounds. Visitors can walk to the lake to view the island and also see the Diana memorial at the water’s edge.
Lunch will be in the Stables Cafe and this is not included in the cost of this outing.
Barnetts will take us by coach, leaving from a central Harpenden meeting point, arriving at Althorp at about 11.00 am.
Please be prepared for a considerable distance to walk on this visit. The ground walking route is fully accessible to wheelchair users, however there are large sections of gravel. Unfortunately, the house does not currently have wheelchair access to the first floor, visitors with limited mobility will be able to visit the Ground Floor only. Should you require a wheelchair or mobility scooter please make sure you bring these items with you as Althorp is unable provide them or charging points.
Cost:The cost for this trip is £48, this includes coach travel, entry and a tip for the driver. TASHE have difficulty processing cheques so please transfer this payment online if at all possible. Members of Historic Houses get in free, ensure you bring your Historic Houses membership card for verification. Althorp House offers complimentary carer tickets when accompanying a visitor who requires care. You may be asked to provide proof of carer status (e.g., a Blue Badge, an Access Card, or similar ID) upon arrival. HH members and carers need only pay for coach travel at the cost of £26.
